How to use Alert Me Option in SharePoint Online

Sir,
I have an query related to Alert Me option which is present in Task list of SharePoint Online i.e BPOS,under Action tab.
I have a  Task list on my teamsite and using that task list , i am assigning tasks to my employees. And i have also set up an Email alert using Alert Me option present under action tab over there.
The issue is, i am receving an email alert on my outlook whenever i am assigning a task to my employees, which i don't want . I want to receive an alert only when the task is completed and not while assigning the task.
So,please guide me on this to avoid such issues in future.

You would set it up similar to this workflow, except instead of moving items, you would create an e-mail to yourself when the item status has changed to Completed:

I think instead of Alert Me, you want to create a workflow on the Task List so that when the Status is set to Completed, you receive a notification e-mail.

You can do this fairly easily using the free SharePoint Designer 2007.
