How to Recover mailbox from Exchange 2003

Hi guys,

Last week we had to let someone go and it seems he deleted all his bad emails. Is there anyway I can recover those. I am looking to go back a whole month. I use a barracuda device as the backup but it backs up the entire exchange store which i am not interested in restoring. I just need to recover one mailbox which is still listed in exchange. I spoke to a few people and they tell me it might be possible to recover the deleted items if exchange was setup to retain deleted items at the time of the install. if this is true how do i recover or check if it was setup that way.

Hi,

Well, those emails are recoverable only if they were Soft deleted (i.e not Shift + Delete).
Outlook -> Tools -> recover Deleted Items.
If thats not the case, you would have to restore the backup.
Best option would be :-
- Create RSG
- Add mailbox Store in it.
- Restore the Backup.
- And, merge the affected Mailbox..!!

Does the mailbox still have a red x through it?  I would create a new user run the cleanup agent if the mailbox is still listed.  Right click the mailbox in esm and reconnect it to a new user account then you should have access to it.

No there is no red x
Did you right click and run cleanup?
I dont think the mailbox will have RedX on it as the Mailbox is still connected and I believe the Mailbox is able to send and receive Emails..!!!
Issue over here is to just retrieve some deleted Emaills...!!

I dont have a cleanup option when i right click.
Right click on mailboxes and run cleanup agent.
