Outlook 2011 migration

I currently have Outlook 2007 on Windows XP.  I have bought a MacBook Pro and would like to get Outlook 2011.    I understand that I can import the .pst files to the Mac.   My e-mail accounts on the Windows XP version are set up as POP accounts so there is nothing I can look at online to see my current set of e-mails (there are about 100,000 spanning 10 years and no -- I can't delete major chunks).  If I set up the e-mail accounts as IMAP accounts on the Mac and then import the XP .pst files, willl e-mails then flow back out onto the Web server where the hosting account resides for each e-mail box therefore making them accessible for each e-mail account's Webmail as well as on the Mac and then all will stay in synch from that point onwards whether I used Web mail or Outlook?    Will Outlook 2011 work on XP as well, or just Windows 7?

Office 2010 works on Windows XP (SP3) and above, and is the latest available version.  Outlook 2011 is only available for the Mac.

If you import your mail from .pst files into an IMAP account, then Outlook should then synchronise with the IMAP folders on the server.  However, I'm not sure you'd want to synchronise 100,000 emails in this way - you'd be better off (in my opinion) keeping most of the emails in a pst file on your computer - maybe archive off all mail before a certain date, and you can then copy this archive file (which will be pst again) to each machine you need to access this mail on.  You could then use your IMAP account to synchronise your current mail between machines.

If you can set up your accounts as IMAP account sin Outlook 2007, you can copy the emails from Outlook personal folders to to one or more of the IMAP accounts folders. (You cannot import IMAP PST file.)  This has to done manually. Check after each chunck of data that you move, to make sure all the emails moved correctly and date on emails are correct.

Then when you set up IMAP of of your accounts in Outlook 2011 in Mac, you will see all the emails you imported into the accounts.  So you can copy emails back to Outlook 2011 personal folders. This has to be done manually. I do not know of a way to sync automatically
