CAPI error - Missing getHeperPlus service

We are getting the following error repeatedly in our logs (SBS 2008):

Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

AddWin32ServiceFiles: Unable to back up image of service getPlusHelper since QueryServiceConfig API failed

System Error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

The getPlusHelper is apparently related to the Adobe download manager. Adobe reader was installed on the server. In the services list I see getHelperPlus listed but it is not running. If I try and start it I get an error. I have tried removing and reinstalling Adobe reader but it did not help. My guess is that this a refernce to an old version of getHelperPlus that was removed during an update. Any ideas how to go about eliminating the error?

    Accepted Solution

This is probably related to Adobe Download Manager (DLM).  You can remove it by uninstalling it from Add/Remove Programs or just take it out of the startup menu if it's there and removing it from the list of services.

Actually I had already tried that several different ways and it did not work. However I was able to solve the problem by running Autostarts from the Sysinternals Suite of tools and removing a couple of references to the DLM. No more errors in the logs.
