How do I stop Microsoft Window Vista creating a new profile everytime I boot up?

Please can you help. I have an HP laptop running Microsoft Windows Vista Home edition, which everytime it boots up creates a new user profile. I am now up to "temp11". I would appreciate it if someone could provide me with some guidance to resolve this issue.

Delete the SID.bak from theprofilelist in registry for the affected profile
