Installing Windows Service Pack 1

Can you install Windows 7 SP1 immediately after a fresh install of Windows 7.

The reason for asking is that when you run windows update after installing a fresh copy of Windows 7, there are a significant number of updates that are required but only after these are installed (and rebooted) is Service Pack 1 then available to install from Windows update.

I would be inclined to (1) download the Service Pack for your paticular machine, (2) let the first batch of critical updates run on your machine, and then (3) apply the Service Pack.

It should work just fine to apply the Service Pack right away, but some people (not me) have had difficulty with SP1. ... Thinkpads_User

Do the updates come in the order of : Important / Recommded / Optional

By critical - will these be "Important" only?

    Accepted Solution

I would just do important and then see if SP1 installs.

I had Windows 7 Pro nearly a year ago and SP 1 just came out more recently, so I have not been able to test thoroughly, but we did apply SP1 very early in the update cycle on some client machines.  ... Thinkpads_User
