Use multiple templates in a site

I would like to design a site in Joomla that would use different templates in different sections.

Is that possible or am I constrained to use a single template?

First install your templates. Go to Template Manager and click on any one of them and find the Menu Assignment and click on Select from List and define whihc template will show up on which menus.

J1.6 has this multiple templates functionality built-in to the core. You can even style the same template differently for different parts of the site.
