BES Database failover
Hello
Running BES 4.1.7 with SQL 2005 for a database. We have about 10 BES servers. The SQL database (SQL1) also has a replication partner, SQL2.
The SQL team want to test the fail over of services from SQL1 to SQL2.
Theoritically, there should not be any downtime for BES.
There are still some queries I had though -
1. When the database is failed over, how can I check that BES is still running as usual? What sort of tests would be good (apart from the Test SQL connection one)
2. If - for whatever reason, the SQL team said that the fail over would result in 2 hour outage. What would be best? Leave BES server running, but queueing messages, or just shut them down?

In Case of SQL, You can chaec the Services. In case of BES, I am blank and some Blackberry guys will help on it.

Hi,
Have you considered upgrading to BES 5.0.x? This supports database mirroring OOB.

Hi,
I don't believe that BES 4.1.x natively supports any form of Database failover - only products such as Neverfail and DoubleTake are supported as partner products.
BES 5 introduced High Availability using SQL Mirroring (2005 SP3 and later) - SQL Clustering is not supported by RIM.

RobMobility.

RIM DOES NOT support Database Mirroring nor Clustering on BES 4.1, only mirroring on 5.x (non Express version).
