Mainstream Support for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 and SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 will end on April 12, 2011
For SQL Server 2005 SP3 and SQL Server 2005 SP4, Microsoft will continue to provide technical support which also includes security updates during the duration of extended support.

The pages at Microsoft are very hard to understand.

Technical support for SQL 2005 will end on 1/10/2012.  Mainstream (hotfix) support ended on 4/12/2011.  If you're going to run SQL 2005 you should have it on SP4.

I'd begin planning your upgrades.  You should have plenty of time to get them done.
