I have an image in PS CS5.  It's a pic of the state of texas.  there is no background so i have a square box with the state of texas in the middle and outside the outline of the state is the checkerboard indication no background color.

Now, I have another image, and I want to drop that image "inside" the state of texas and size it up so it looks like it's inside the state of texas.

can someone talk to me like i'm a three yr old and tell me how?

Select the state of texas "image" in the layers box while holding down the CTRL key. (If you are on a  mac, use the CMD key)

This will select the editable area of Texas

While that is selected, click on the image you want inside of texas and press the Mask button at the bottom of the layers panel (Rectangle with a circle inside of it)

in my layers panel, I have only one layer.  the state of texas.  when I CTRL click it, no indication that an editable region has been selected exists.

Do i need to crag my second pic over and make it a layer?

Make sure Texas is a layer and not a background. When you ctrl and select the layer, click the little image in the layer to select the editable layer.

got it!  very cool.  closing this one now and opening another about making the background, the checkerboard part, transparent when I drop it in dreamweaver.
