Create a coverage map with a Ziocode overlay

What I am trying to accomplish is to take a list of Zipcodes from a simple Excel file and turn that into a map of the United States with those Zip codes shaded in.
As an example , I'm thinking of something like a coverage map by a cell phone carrier. What programs can do this , I have  a trial of Arcview but may need something simpler.
Ive tried Mapland and Google Earth Pro and while these do great a mapping specific addresses the method to add Zip code shading eludes me.
Does anyone know of a good program that will allow me to create a coverage map by zip code ?
