Backup my email

Please tell me the best way to take a backup of all my emails from my Gmail account.

This walkthrough helped me accomplish exactly what you are trying to do.

Gmail allows free 'POP3' access to your email so you can download them all into traditional email clients such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird. This will bring all the email local to your computer where you can back them up further to DVD or whatever suits you.

If you go into Gmail, there should be a link on the upper right for 'settings' or 'preferences'. In there will be a tab that will allow you to enable POP access to your email. It will ask if you just want to set POP access for new email only, or all email. You need the latter.

Gmail also has links that will automatically set up a number of different email software clients to receive your email.

I believe that there might be a download limit based on either number of emails or size of emails per 24 hour time frame so don't be surprised if you don't get all emails at once. It may take some time to download all emails if you have lots.
