Cannot empty the recycle bin within Sharepoint 2007

Good afternoon,

Running Sharepoint 2007 SP2 which has a large site collection recycle bin with over 900 thousand of deleted items. I want to remove all items from here but when i try to empty the end user recycle bin or delete items from the second stage recycle bin it times out or appears with a "cannot complete this action error"

I've tried to turn off both the first and second stage recycle bins from Central Administration and disabling this through stsadm but these error and time out as well.

The recycle bin is set to only retain items for 30 days, but there are items in there that were deleted a year ago. The job-recycle-bin-cleanup job is set to run every hour but fails each times it runs.

Can anyone please advise if there is another way to empty the bin?

I ran the powershell script found in the link advised by ACH1LLES and the script ran OK for my other small site collections, but when i tried to run on the main site collection with this problem recycle bin, it didn't work. There was no error it looked like it was running for a 2 minutes then just went back to the command prompt and nothing was deleted from the bin.

navdeepmadan: I tried running the script from your link through powershell as well but it had multiple errors when trying to run. Should i be using powershell to run this or something else?
