dblink db Name

Hi dears,

I create an db link on oracle 10g with Toad and  i receive the confirmation Message : Database Link Created. Would you like to test it now ?

I Answer with Yes and I receive another Confirmation with :

Link Name
Connection
DB Name
DB Version

The connection is OK, but i have an strange Name on DB NAME : dumpdb.domainname

Where Oracle comes to this DB Name ?

SID = DF
db_file_name_convert =dumpdb, DF
db_unique _name=DF
service_names=DF.Domainname

that's the name it gets from

GLOBAL_NAME@YOUR_DB_LINK

in the menu Database -> Spool SQL -> Spool SQL to Screen

then click the Lightning Bolt "Test Database LInk" icon

you'll see the SQL exectuted by Toad during its test

To my answer. Global Name is DF, why he writes dumpdb ?

Toad will display whatever the sql statement returns.

If you execute the same statement yourself you should see the same results.  If you don't, then Toad is doing something odd and you'll have to contact Quest support

See if the domain name is being added from your sqlnet.ora file:
NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN
