FM - DB Consolidation Issue:  Finding that Broken Link

I've consolidated 3 sets of dbs in FM and then finally ran into a problem.  On my 4th combo, the difficulty was that in the db that I was deleting, it contained my navigation script for all buttons in the remaining dbs.  I thought I had found all references to the db about to be deleted ("Projects"), but when our admin tries to close at the end of the day for the past two days, her FM hangs and it shows the Open Remote screen.  (However, it does not happen for me.  I searched the close script, but found nothing unusual.)

Is there some universal Find feature in FM so I can see if the db "Projects" is referred to in any script, value list, or calc, etc.?

You can use the File References section of the DDR - Database Design Report - available under the Tools menu in FileMaker Pro Advanced. You need to have all files open that you want to report on when you run the report. If you save as HTML, it will open in a browser and provide various categories and cross-referencing of all dependencies and references for each FileMaker object, script, field, table, etc.

For a more visually accessible presentation, use the Beezwax product "Inspector", which is built in FileMaker and uses the XML version of the DDR export. You startup Inspector, import the DDR and it performs a number of cross-reference checks and then lets you search for references or dependencies on any FileMaker component including file references to other databases. I believe Inspector has a 30-day trial period so you can try it out.

I was aware of the DDR, but found it cumbersome.  However, did not know I could search right in the web viewer.  On my way to fixing everything.  Thanks, Will.

Try out Inspector 30-day trial. It uses the same DDR data but presents the data very differently. I'm still getting used to the new version but it's definitely useful and more user friendly than the straight DDR.
