Have you activated Windows 7? Sometimes this can be the problem.  To check right-click Computer and select properties. Under Windows Activation make show it read "Windows is activated".

If all is good there, if not already installed you can try installing Windows 7 SP1. Hopefully the resolves the problem.

If it was working at one stage you can try doing a system restore to a point before the problem started occurring.

First run system readiness tool and then restart the computer. After restarting the computer install updates.

System readiness tool  Windows 7 32 bit.

If still not able to install updates then upload the checksur.log on EE for analysis.

Sorry, out of the office for a  day...

Thanks for the suggestions.  I've tried the above suggestions and still no luck.  The problems still persist.

I've submitted a support request from Microsoft.  Hopefully they can help!

No errors....could be security software or software at start up that is creating this problem.

Do clean boot and manually try to install the update that is failing. Download the update from Microsoft download center and then install it manually.

Clean Boot

Launch msconfig-go to startup tab-click disable all. Then go to service tab-put a check on hide all Microsoft service and then click disable all. Click ok and then restart the computer.

After restarting the computer..install the update manually.

That did it.  Something was keeping the updates from happening.  Thanks!
