Storage Admin, San Admin, EMC, RAID

I am trying to change career to a SAN Admin/Storage Admin, along that line. Question is what certification and basic knowledge i should have. My company have EMC storage devices. Can anyone provide info on basic EMC certification and study guides where I can make a start and provide some legitimacy. One of the SAN Admin is leaving and wish to do a crash course to at least make a slight impression in the interview hopefully.

a long list is here: http://www.pass-guaranteed.com/EMC-exams.htm

however, no need to get all of them, just choose a right one as per your background and starting point.

Thats a lot of exams, which associate exam will be a good starting point. Do you or anyone else happen to have any links with study material? I am not to familar with the SAN/Storage terms and concepts. I am reading the raid article at the front of the stage page here at ee

Do you know of online test labs you can purchase to hone and sharpen SAN skills? Or How would u recommend to build a basic SAN to utilize what one would learn in the  Storage Networking, I alredy have a Solaris Saprc v240,  a hp prolian with a 3 disk array, a dell power edge Dell Poweredge 1750 ,
What type of EMC storage do you use?  Symmetrix, CLARiiON, Celerra, VNX (brand new line)?

What type of connectivity do you use?  Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE?

I would figure out those 2 questions and then look into those products.  basic, vendor-neutral free SAN information can be found at http://www.snia.org/home/.
That site will at least sharpen your terminology and help you get some basics out of the way.  I'm not sure if their certs carry any weight though.

EMC does have simulators to practice with their interface for CLARiiON (Unisphere/Navisphere simulator).  You'd need a powerlink account to download them though.

We have EMC Symmetrix, EMC Connectrix and Sun Storedge 9900.
For EMC, I would start off preparing for the EMC Information Storage and Management (E20-001), which covers the basics of generic as well as EMC storage technologies. then select any track
(Implementation / Administration etc based on your preferences).

Once you have the basics of storage inplace, it gets easier to learn and adapt to different vendor storage technologies at a later point in time.

join the link powerlink.emc.com to the most info, you can also try Storage Technology Foundations stf exam (E20-001) or snia Storage Network Foundations exam (S10-101). http://www.snia.org/education/certification/
