Entourage on SBS 2003

have a Mac with Entourage 2008 that has been connected to SBS 2003 Exchange using POP protocol.

The user has been getting emails for nearly a year until yesterday.  Entourage gives an error that the login credentials are incorrect.  However, the user login name and password work on OWA without a problem.  When Entourage is started it shows the user name at the top and the message not connected in parenthesis.

I tried setting up the user as an Exchange and IMAP account, but had the same results.

I tested the server by setting up the user account on a PC and the connection worked fine.

The Mac connects to server share drives without a problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem.

    Accepted Solution

Does the Mac use a certificate? Is it the most up-to-date one?

    Author Comment

No, we are not using certificates.  As I understand it, a certificate is not necessary if the computer is part of an internal domain, which is the case here.  Also, I am unfamiliar with the use of certificates, so I elected to not use them at this point.  If you think that might be the issue, however, I am willing to take advice on how to set one up.

    Assisted Solution

Try using the IP address of the exchange server instead of the dns name. It could be a dns issue.

I have already tried using the IP address of the exchange server - unfortunately, still no connection.

This is, in fact, how I had the Entourage account setup during the time that it was working, which has been for about the last 9 months.

Problem had multiple issues, that was ultimately solved when I upgraded SBS 2003 to SBS 2011.  DNS and certificates were part of the answer to the total problem.
