Suddenly the VM IC started showing wrong machine names under the Inventory of the VMs for example a server icon would show it to be Server Joe when in fact in the console tab it is Server Tom.

I tried restarting the  VMware VirtualCenter Server on the machine running the server but now i cannot connect and get the following message:

"Cannot connet to host XXX: No connection could be made because target machine actively refused it"

Any help?

Is the VMware vCenter Service running correctly on the vCenter Server?

Are you running SQL Express database, and the database has not become full?

Check event logs on the vCenter server?

Do you get this error message when trying to connect to vCenter server of ESX host server?

Also try connecting by IP address, rather than DNS hostname.

This seems to be a host related issue, are you able to view the host / ssh to the host?

If yes what is the value of "vmauthd.server.alwaysProxy" in /etc/vmware/config?

Take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1008436 for some trouble shooting steps from the VMware knowledge base.

VMware vCenter Service was not starting properly, i had shut down all vms and reboot the host. On start up i had some duplicate vms with one saying Orphan, which we removed.

Any idea why this occured?
