You can extend your timeout and see if that helps.

Have you been able to connect in the past?

Make sure you allow connections in your confirmation.

What type of connection string are you using?

Hi, thanks for the comments.
how to increase the timeout property?
yes, I'm able to connect to database before.
I'm new to sql and don't know more details on how to trouble shoot.

Efficient way to get backups off site to Azure

You can change the timeout of Enterprise Manager, Tools->Options Advanced
tab Login timeout, default 10 seconds.
Also make sure you set you package size to 4096 or higher, not to the
default 512 bytes. Last make sure you have the right default client
protocol.

Hi, I'm getting this time out issue when I'm testing a select query.
I verified the options you suggested and every thing looks ok there as you suggested.

do you think deadlock or blocking might be causing this issue?

how to resolve or check for blocking problems?
pls advise.

It sounds like you do not have a Connection Timeout but rather a Command Timeout.  This can typically be fixed by optimizing the query.
