How to regain permission in Sharepoint 2007?

I was going through our permissions and accidently highlighted my own permissions and set them to read only.  Now I can't get back in to set anything up on a calendar that has lots of information on it.  The original author does not work here anymore and his account was deleted. How can I get permissions back?

I think those instructions may be for the CA site collection? Here are alternate steps:

- Open Central Administration
- Click Application Management
- Under SharePoint Site Management, select Site Collection administrators
- Select the desired site collection
- Add yourself as either the primary or secondary owner.

Were you only a Site Owner, and not a Site Collection Admin?

Do you have access to Central Administration? If so, add yourself as a Site Collection Administrator.

I have access to the server so how would I go about doing this.

SharePoint Central Administration should be in the Programs menu on the actual SharePoint server itself.
