Magento - Add custom attributes to product list view

I am building a Magento shop and want to dispaly some custom attributes on the main list view area with more info such as:

Artist Christian Name
Artist Surname *
Condition *
Year *
Record Type *

I have the above custom attributes setup and working in the admin side and the attribute code is the above but all lowercase and no spaces such as artistchristianname

I have followed a few examples and cant get anything to be displayed in the list view, I have recently just tried the following:
http://www.imagedia.com/2010/02/how-to-add-attributes-to-product-grid-or-list-view-in-category-in-magento-commerce/

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or have a solution that works?

Thanks
Nick

1. What Magento Version are you using?

2. Try this(depending on what version you have):
   a) edit the attributes in question
   b) make sure that the following setting on each attribute are set:
          1) Visible on Product View Page on Front-end is set to Yes
           2) Used in Product Listing is set to yes

Then refresh you indexes and you cache an see if they are appearing now. This is a version and theme dependent fix.

If this does not work then after doing the above. edit the product detail page and try to just echo
$_product->getData("artistchristianname")

and see if that gets you your data.
