Are there black and white drivers for copiers?

Is there a way to install a copier and have it default printing to black and white at the same time..? I am trying to avoid having to go into the printer preferences to do it, as I need to install it on 30 or so computers.

Thanks

Are you installing it as a network printer?

If you install the printer on a single computer or a server and share the computer from there, whatever preferences you set on the computer it is shared through will default on every machine it is installed on.

So if I install it on serverA, I set the preferences on server A to black and white. From there, any machine that it is added to over the network as a shared printer will install with the black and white as default.

It's a networked printer, added by [TCP/]IP address.

Okay, well the only way I know of then to install it the way you want would be to set it up on a specific computer, set the defaults and then SHARE the printer, instead of actually setting up a TCP/IP port for every machine.

Okay... So, I created a script that distributed the printer driver and it is now a "shared" printer. The B&W default works; however, if they (client computer) want to print from color the options is not available under properties (in Word, for example)... How do they change this? Best answer to whoever gets this.

Thanks

Can I get a screen shot of the preferences from the client machine?

Also, your stipulation for rewarding the question seems unreasonable.

Your request has been completed and black and white by default has been accomplished. It seems like you should start a new thread for this new problem.

#1: One second on the screen shot.

#2: I actually received the answer I was looking for from another thread; however, that answer had to do with sharing and scripting. I now need the ability to change the option of color type, if needed. Although I'd have to 80% agree with you, I feel the default and default ONLY option is not a full answer.

+ Predefined Configurations

Please don't think I am being a punk, just thought it should be said.

Anyway, judging from this I would check the sharing settings on the server. If black and white only is enabled on the client, it probably is on the server install too. There should be a way to disable it.

I would start with your configuration on the server. I will look into this printer specifically to see if I can find an answer.

Here is a screenshot of the user manual. Maybe try this?

Here is a link to the manual I got this from.

See starting at page 63 in that linked manual. Most likely that is what you are looking for.

Hmm.. That is not what I'm looking for unfortunately.

This allows B&W or Color *ONLY*, based on the schedule criteria given; we need both available to the end-users.

Needs to be default to B&W only with the option of color. :(... Can't find anything.

I would try setting the permissions for non-authenticated users to ALLOW color printing.

Reminder: once you make a change on the printer/server that has printer installed, uninstall said printer from client and reinstall to see the changes.

Hi there,
I did that for TCP/IP direct printers and also for printers shared by a print server.
1. TCP/IP:
You can just add the printer on the client computers, creating a new TCP/IP port, like you normally do that with a TCP/IP printer. Call it "Color-Printer" or similar.
Then add a new printer, using the same TCP/IP port, "keep existing driver", call it "B-W-Printer". Leave the color as it is, on the b&w edit the printer preferences, change the settings to b&w and save it as default printer profile.
2. Print server:
Do the same as described above on the print server and share both printers.
Now you can distribute them via script, set default printers and even different settings by group membership (ifmember, con2prt.exe)
Then users don't need to change the printer preferences but only chose the right printer.
Worked fine for me in an environment 160 users, 35 printers and 10 copy/scanners.

Deffo go for 2 queues,1 Mono, the other colour.

When  you add the second one you may need to change the port name...(but not the IP address!)

As indi says, you can then tweak each one as required, share them and have users connect.

Works fine at any size, from small (40 users) to large (25-30k+ users).
