ok, whats your question?

is it why was it delayed?
generally a broken pipe is a result of some issue with the domain of the destination.
either the server is out of disk space or something with the email system on the server.

so its not a gmail issue, gmails server merely reported to you that they were getting this response and will retry the send until successful over the next 5 days before it gives up, and sends you an undeliverable.

uh, sorry, I should have reviewed before posting, I accidentally copied the error message over my question!

My office has a domain, wolfbone.com, and mail is hosted by Earthlink - each user has a forward only (no mailbox) that goes to each user's gmail account.

The entire office is intermittently receiving these messages.  Also, and only sometimes, they will not receive emails from the outside until 3 hours after the time stamp.

So, the question is, what could be some causes for these delays.  I also agree that this is not a gmail issue.  It could be an Earthlink issue, but I'm not sure how to resolve it since the emails are only forwards (other than switching to a different mail server).

Or do you think it is a possibility that this could be an issue of the office's ISP?  We are on CypressCom?  Our internet is super slow (1 Mbps for 10 users) - until next month, we are stuck with them by contract.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Oh, forgot to mention that 2 people in the office have a user@wolfbone.com that forwards to their MobileMe accounts and they also have the same issues.  Definitely not a Gmail issue!

so your office is wolfbone.com hosted on earthlink server(s).

It wont be your ISP, even a 1mb pipe can handle emails for 10 users unless your sending a lot of big file attachements.

so your using POP mail, through earthlink,  and when a person is using thier gmail.com account sending to your office or even anyone sending emails to your office it can be delayed or not recieved at all, by users within the wolfbone.com email domain.

that about sum it up?

<so your office is wolfbone.com hosted on earthlink server(s).> CORRECT

<It wont be your ISP, even a 1mb pipe can handle emails for 10 users unless your sending a lot of big file attachements.>  That's what I thought, but just wanted to throw it out there...

<so your using POP mail, through earthlink,> No, not using POP mail, no mailboxes at all on Earthlink, all @wolfbone.com addresses are only forwards which are directed to separate gmail and mobileme accounts.

< and when a person is using thier gmail.com account sending to your office or even anyone sending emails to your office it can be delayed or not recieved at all, by users within the wolfbone.com email domain. > That is correct - at least how the information is being reported to me :)

what it sounds like to me is that earthlink servers are putting emails that are going to wolfbone.com into a que possibly for anti-virus or spam.. and its delaying the delivery.

I thought of that, but as far as I can tell on the Earthlink control panel, it only sends through an AV/spam filter if it goes into a mailbox - no adjustments can be made if it is only a forward.  Guess I would have to take this up with them.
