I have a windows sever 2003 but seems that the spoil service is not working since an installation of a printer failed.

I wonder if I had to perform some kind of clean up.

What steps have you taken?

I would do the following:

Start with the event viewer. See if you can find why it won't start.

Open services.msc and try to restart service.

It that doesn't work, restart server and try again.

If that still doesn't work and you can't find anything in the event viewer, try removing all printers, restarting the server and restarting the service.

Have you done any of this?

Also please make sure that you have the latest service pack and all updates installed

Before removing all the printers, clear out any SHD/SPL files in WIndows/system32/spool/printers and restart the spooler once again. There are any submitted jobs that are waiting (You could copy them out if required) or stuck in this folder.
