New 2008 Server R2 (NO SBS) going into a 2003 sbs Enviornment

I have a SBS 2003 server on a clients site.  I have just purchased a completely new 2008 Server R2 due to them not using the exchange function on their old SBS 2003 server.  I am able to add the 2008 server to the domain and it is now functioning as a secondary domain controller.

What I want to do is completely remove the SBS 2003 server from the clients current site.  However, when I tried to DC Promo the sbs server it tells me it is unable to perform this step.    Is it possible to decommission the sbs 2003 which demands to be the primary controller?

With SBS enviroment you cannot just add domain controllers or remove them, you need to use the migration utility which comes with the SBS 2008 OS. Please see link below for more details.

Because the SBS installer does a DCPROMO during install, the migration utility must be used to get a new ***SBS*** server to join an existing domain. Non-SBS servers can be added using normal procedures; the migration utility is not required. Demoting the SBS 2003 server failed simply because the conditions for a successful demotion were not yet met, which I covered in a previous reply.
