"could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed"

A friend of mine has a laptop with windows 7 and when she attempts to open certien web pages she get an error message, "could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."

What is causing this error and how can she resolve the issue?

Check to see if it is picking the correct "default mail client". If it is, try re-installing the email client to reset it.

In Windows, look in Set Default Programs. On my machine, Control Panel -> Set Default Programs. This where Internet Explorer looks for its default programs.

You might also try going into Yahoo! mail and see if there is an option to set it as default. There normally is, but I don't know specifically about Yahoo!.  .... Thinkpads_User

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

It sounds like she is clicking on websites with the mailto:webmaster@site.com which are links that open up email messages.  If she doesn't have a client such as Outlook then she'll get that 'default mail client' message.  She needs to either copy / paste the address after the mailto: into a new yahoo message or setup a pop3 account in Outlook (if she has that as a client).

We'll need to know if you have a mail client already setup -- follow thinkpads_user's method will work.

actually setting up the default email client depends upon what client do you want to use... i.e some client have their own software e.g Windows Live Mail ... or Thunderbird.... while other rely on going through the webpage to send the email... the 1st type can be setup using the default programs options in windows 7 while the latter one will require a small tweak in registry...plz tell me what client do you want to use so that i can tell you how to set that one up

by the way i have found two simple programs that can do this for you

http://gmaildefault.codeplex.com/

About GmailDefaultMaker:
Gmail as the default mailto: client.
Yahoo, AOL, and Hotmail, and Google Apps are equally supported.

the other one

http://www.affixa.com/

see if this solves your problem..
