desktop icon & lower task bar - windows 7

Hi I have windows 7 on my laptop and the "desktop" icon will not attach to the lower task bar when i select "pin" option after right hand clicking on the "desktop" icon.
Also, the lower tasbar after selecting "lock" still will not show the taskbar permanently.
Please assist

To make the taskbar 'Stick' you need to right-click on it and select properties, then uncheck 'auto-hide the taskbar'.

Hi MC,
1. the only option i have in windows 7 is "lock taskbar" which is selected already so basically thats not working.
2. there is no blank rectangle on the bottom RH corner of the taskbar, and the desktop icon im referring to is the standard one all windows OS have.

hi thinkpads, i followed your directions clicked on "restore default icon behaviours" but still keps hiding the task bar, also i still cant pin the "desktop" icon to this same lower task bar.
There is no "desktop" icon in Windows 7 (which is probably why it won't pin). The desktop function in Windows is built into the taskbar. That is why I suggested restoring default icons.

Right click on the Taskbar and select Properties again. The properties window comes up. Is auto-hide checked or unchecked. This is what MCSolutions suggested but your response suggested you did not open the properties window.

Can you post back a screenshot of your problem?
Hi thinkpad, yes i didnt go into "properties" so thats now fixed.
2. on the desktop itself there is a "desktop" shortcut which when i drag onto the lower taskbar will not pin. But then in a list of what is pinned the desktop icon is shown, so it tells me that its pinned but wont display on the lower task bar.
Here is the default Desktop function. It is a function and not pinned.

Is this not there (right hand corner, to the right of the clock) not there for you ?
