autowire by default

I was reading folowing lines and I did not understand clearly.
Autowiring by default
By default, beans will not be autowired unless you set the autowire attribute.
However, you can set a default autowiring for all beans within the Spring configuration
wiring file by setting default autowire on the root <beans> element:
<beans default-autowire="byName">
Set this way, all beans will be autowired using byName unless specified otherway
Any ideas, resources,sample code,links, highly appreciated. thanks in advance.

    unless you configure spring to do autowiring then no autowiring will be done
