Does anyone have a list of FREE tools to verify patch status of the various platforms/technologies in your environment? I know there is MBSA (security analyzer) for microsoft server level products but there must be more tools for other platforms/technologies to help admins verify patch status of there software/technology?

    Accepted Solution

For debian based linux apt-get update / update, dsktune on redhat, or yum list-security

Solaris used to have a tool, but I think that's now hidden behind an Oracle paywall

The likes of Cisco is probably via vendor support contracts

Apple has security updates on it's site, but I *don't think* there are tools, same with other *bsd OS
