corrupted messages after getting them back 3rd party email vault

We use a 3rd email archive.  We have a problem that does the following:
Exchange should have converted the message from Native Exchange format to Internet MIME format before it was sent to the journaling archive but it didn’t. So the journaling server received the message in a format it doesn’t understand.  This is addressed in MS KB 982209 unfortunately we didnt apply the patch until this week.

Is there anyway to fix the old corrupted emails?  Or at least read corrupted emails that come from the service
