How to update Symantec EndPoint Protection while out office

Hello Everyone

We have few clients that are running Symantec endpoint protection through the server. Is there a way we can configure symantec, to get updates from internet if the users are not connect to the network?

Thank you

If the clients are away from the office as much or more than in the office, the easiest way is to put Symantec Endpoint Protection on their machines in unmanaged mode. It works all the time that way, although you cannot explicitly manage SEP on such clients.

I find the advantage (constant protection) to outweigh the negatives.

You could hook the clients up by VPN to get managed updates, but unmanaged works well. I use this approach.

Thanks for the reply Thinkpads_user

But we don’t really want to use unmanaged mode or running an updates through VPN. We were hopping if there is another solution for this.

Thanks

If you don't want to connect through a VPN, and you don't want unmanaged mode (both of which work), then there is no other way to update it because it will want its server.

So your users will just have to wait until they are back in the office again. .... Thinkpads_User

Thanks. Make sure you understand the security implications about an open connection to your server. VPN, after all, is only for securing such connections - nothing else.  .... Thinkpads_User
Our way worked correctly.
