removing disconnected mailboxes in exchange 2010

I have space issue I need to remove a number of disconnected mailboxes however I'm not having any luck.  any ideas?

you need to set the deleted mailbox retention time on the database(s) to 0 days
then you need to wait for online maintenance to run to clear the space

Maybe a silly question but how do you change mailbox retention times

this is a property of the mailbox database
Set-MailboxDatabase DbName -MailboxRetention 0.00:00:00
