My SQL Server Instance was renamed, and now getting the following error when tried to open or delete the maintenance task.  Now, unabel to modify, delete, script the mainteance task.

 Error:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib)

  Additional information:
A network-related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL
Server is configured to allow remote connection. (provide: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40-
Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:53)

I have checked the named pipes, it's enable.

You have to follow the below procedure when you rename a machine hosting sql server.

All procedures followed, but when I entered

select @@servername
results is Null.

When you do a SELECT * FROM sys.servers  what is the result?  Do you get a result?

With your solution SELECT * FROM sys.serers. It returns the new instance name as below.

1      STAGINGDB3      SQL Server      SQLNCLI      STAGINGDB3      NULL      NULL      NULL      0      0      0      1      1      0      0      1      NULL      0      0      0      0      0      0      0      2011-05-06 15:07:41.420

But when SELECT @@SERVERNAME it returns a NULL.

Again, all my web application that are currently connecting to this instance are experiencing a similar error:

Do you think it's a name resolution issue.  I do need help.
