exchange 2007 - smarthost queue messages move to local dns delivery queue

I have exchange 2007 sp3 running, sending our outbound through a smarthost (service provider).

The service provider is currently down, so I switched our outbound send connector to "Use DNS Name System MX records to route mail automatically.  Since I made this change all our outbound mail is delivering w/o issue.  However the mail that was routed throught the smart hose setting is stuck.  How can I move the smarthose queue message to the dns outbound queue?

Try to restart the smtp service or the exchange transport service.
