Uh, never mind, that was a stupid question, unless you've got this misclassified - IE9 doesn't run on XP.

I am runnig IE8 on Windows XP SP3. The Windows Update with update KB2497640 seems to popup under the System Tray yellow shield icon after a reboot of my computer - even after Windows Update reports a successful install completion of this update. I must reinstall the update to get the yellow shield to disappear only to get it to return after the reboot.

try uninstalling the update completely from Add-Remove Programs and then installing it again. see if it might help

The uninstall/reinstall did not resolve the issue. The Update KB2497640 still comes back after every reboot of my computer. Any other Ideas?

Issue finally resolved! I uninstalled/reinstalled MS IE 8 by downloading and reinstalling IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe from the Microsoft downloads website.
