learning networking

I'm considering signing up to learn networking in a trade school, becuase I want to expand from servicing residential clients to business clients. How did most of you guys learn networking? And how long do you think I need to work in a company before I can do IT consultiing on my own?

I'm a desktop guy, and picked it up working with the network guys. I took some classes that the company offered.

You really should be into networking 5-10 years or more before trying to branch out on your own. And you should keep up to date by taking classes.

Try to Join CCNA , You can learn from Basic and get intermediate knowledge about switches & Routers.

For opening a consulting is upto your  skill.

Do you have a Cisoc Networking Acedemy nearby then it is a good start point. It starts from scratch and and has pedagogic materials.
