In those kinds of setups I normally use Wndows Easy Transfer on the computer before formatting it. If you use Vista or Seven it is a part of the system. If you use XP you will have to download and install.
It keeps Outlook profiles correctly stored. Some times, though, it 'loses' the password for the pop3 account, so be sure to know it. You can go into the Advanced section and only backup e-mail accounts and settings, if you wish, ot the whole user profile (documents, desktop, program settings, etc.).
i would say after u format ur laptop , configure your pop profile  and switch of the connection to ur server(i.e pull out you internet connection , now move ur pst mail to ur inbox and immediately start ur lan cnnection.

now duplicates wont be copied.

later u can move the mails back to pst :)
