I have a manufacture date for the product, and then a shipping date for when the product is shipped.  How can I have the shipping date match the date on the computer?  This would save time inputting the date each time we generate a report.

Meaning you want the shipping date to be the current date when you create the record? Open your database to the screen where the date appears, then go to File -> Manage -> Database. This should show you the list of fields in the table that the layout is based on. You may only have one table or you may have many, but by default FileMaker always opens the Manage Database window to the table of the current layout.

Once there find the shipping date field and click it to highlight it. In the lower right of your screen you'll see a button called "Options". In the Options dialog, click the checkbox for "Creation" and make sure "Date" is selected. Click OK, and the close the Manage Database dialog, saving changes if asked. Now the current date will be automatically entered in that field when the record is created.

If instead you just want to have a way to enter the current date in a record that may or may not have been created today, there is both a menu command and keyboard shortcut for this. Click or tab into the field and then look under the "Insert" menu for "Current  Date". You can enter the date by selecting it from the menu or by using the keyboard shortcut which is Command-hyphen on the Mac and I believe, Control-hyphen on Windows. There are other more sophisticated ways to enter the date, time, calculated text, etc. but it depends hugely on the specific need.
