oracle linux server password
I installed successfully oracle linux server in vmware..
while installing linux server asked for a password and I created..
I know my ms xp user name and password..
Here is my issue..
When oracle linux server 6.0 boot up it is asking for login and password.
(linux server is over vmware)
I supplied my ms xp os user name and password , it did not work out..
actually which login user name and password it is asking for..
I am stucked here..

The linux installation would have asked you for the _root_ password. That is what you login to initially to create other user accounts and/or install software. Use the same password you configured when setting up the root administrator account during install.
When you boot it up, the login screen asks for both a username and password, it will always mean a Linux user, not a windows xp user.

Following is the procedure to reset root password.
Select the kernel
Press the e key to edit the entry
Select second line (the line starting with the word kernel)
Press the e key to edit kernel entry so that you can append single user mode
Append the letter S (or word Single) to the end of the (kernel) line
Press ENTER key
Now press the b key to boot the Linux kernel into single user mode
At prompt type passwd command to reset password:
and Reboot your system.
