Docked iPhone won't play sounds

I have an iPhone and a dock that I bought but when I have it plugged in and say a text message comes in I get no sound. It works fine undocked or if I have it plugged in with just the normal cable.

The dock has a line out so I got a cable and plugged it into the line in on my computer and if set it to play sounds through the device it works but the problem is that when nothing is being played I get static and a beep sound every few seconds.

So my question is, can I get it to play sound when docked with or without the cable without the hissing sound?

The dock is made for iPod not iPhone. Someof these get interference when used with an iPhone just like you are describing. Get a new dock that is made for iPhone.

I have a dock for my iPhone as well.

When docked it disables the iPhone's internal speaker. It can only play sound when you connect speakers directly to the dock.

According to the manual it has to be connected to external speakers.

So I need an iPhone dock without a line out is that correct?

Don't know if those dock's (without line-out) exist. Perhaps that will work.
