I have been asked to create a new site on our Sharepoint 2010.

They have forwarded me a word doc to embed into the main body of that site. This Document has images inside it. (basically they want it to look like a normal website).

I am able to copy and paste the text into the site, however the layout is not the same. But the only way I seem to be able to  insert the images is to save them all as image files, upload and then insert into the text again. Is there an easy way I can make this word doc embed directly into the site?

answering to your question:
save your word document as a web page. (file save as other formats, select web page from dropdown of save as type).

responding to your requirement:
create a custom page from sharepoint site collection itself, copy the word content into it.

2nd point: create a aspx page in sharepoint: go to ur site collection > site actions > create page.
copy ur content.
publish.

1st point:
upload this aspx page to pages library of ur site collection, and call this page from page viewer web part.

I am still confused.

Let me clarify what I understand,
Step 1 - Open word doc and save as html
Step 2 - create new page in site collection
Step 3 - Copy content from HTML and paste into new page
Step 4 - Add web part to my required location

This all seems fine, but it still doesn't include my images when I copy/paste. It's the same as if I copy from the word doc and paste onto the new site. Am I missing something?

there r 2 distinct things:
1. save doc as web page, upload it in pages library, call it in a aspx page via page viewer web part.
2. create a page in sharepoint, copy word content and paste in the page itself or use content editor and paste the content into rich text editor.

I see.
Have tried with point 1.

If I upload the HMTL after I create from the word doc, it uploads, but the images are all replaced with error msg refering to temp file locations. So still no luck.

ok, then while saving this document chose:
File > Save As > Other Formats > Save As Type: Single File Web Page.
Upload this, it will carry pictures embedded.

It doesn't carry the pics. That is what I tried in my previous comment.

Under Save as Type: There are 2 distinct formats for web page:
1. Web Page,
2. Single File Web Page.
What i asked in my previous post is to check with 2. It works dear, try it.
