Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

SaadAhmedFarooquiCommented:
are you sure there are no group poliies applied that could cause this.

is this a recent issue, I mean were you able to take the backup before?

did the issue occured immidiately after the renaming of administrator account? if yes did you restarted the server after the rename?

SaadAhmedFarooquiCommented:
Check if the volume shadow copy service is running or not. Thi service is required for takig backups.

You can only back up the System State data on a local computer. You cannot back up the System State data on a remote computer.

if your file version is older than "5.2.3790.3959" you can download atatched ntbackup.txt and rename to ntbackup.exe and try.

@saad. system stat backup is possible remotly.

go to run, mstsc /admin and try.

SaadAhmedFarooquiCommented:
@ itubaf:

yes when you are taking remote session it is, but if you are doing it remotely from the ntbackup utility. That is you are accessing the remote computer through the ntbackup itself.

Have you tried a systemstate backup from a batch or command line?
EX.
ntbackup.exe backup "@D:\SysSta.bks" /n "systemstate-server mybackup" /d "Set created" /v:no /r:no /rs:no /hc:off /m normal /j "system-state-server" /l:s /f "D:\systemstate-server.bkf"

You need to create the file SysSta.bks with inside the following single line
SysteState

Attention:remember to save the file SysSta.bks  using notepad as unicode non ansi

Then hange the path of "@D:\SysSta.bks" and parameter /f where do yuo want the backup file

Is not a solution only a workarounrd...

In the event viewer you should  have some error about the failed command line. Post the error please.
0

SaadAhmedFarooquiCommented:
run the batch after opening the command prompt, that way you will see the error if any
0

canaliCommented:
Again try this

ntbackup.exe backup systemstate  /F d:\MySystemStateBackup.bkf

An then look in the event viewer

paramjitkakakrAuthor Commented:
Their is no error message backup screen open foe few seconds and then automatically get closed.
No error message generated

canaliCommented:
The error or the succesful execution of the ntbackup.exe are in the application "event viewer" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997769%28EXCHG.65%29.aspx

Hve you tried the second command? retry this from a command prompt
cmd.exe
and then paste the following command:
ntbackup.exe backup systemstate  /F C:\SystemStateBackup.bkf

paramjitkakakrAuthor Commented:
