Cannot respond to an invite without an organiser, you must add an organiser field to the item
Hello EE,
I have been getting multiple clients having the error: "Can't respond to an invite without an organiser , you must add an organiser field to the item". The client's all have XP SP3 and also MS Office Std/Pro 2003 SP3, I have been thus far been unable to find a fix apart from either accepting the request using an iPhone, Accepting without sending a request or deleting the request and having the organiser re-send the request.
I have tried new Outlook profiles, New local profiles, outlook commands such as Cleanreminders and various others and nothing seems to correct the issue.'
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

No the users that are sending the requests are not removed from the system, it seems to occur only with people who are using an iPhone to view their exchange email account.
I think that when they view the new meeting request on their iPhone it is affecting the organiser field, so that when they view it in outlook 2003 the organiser field is empty. The appointments that are having issues are fresh appointments not old outdated ones where the original created has been removed from the system, and like I said they work fine when accepted using the iPhone for some reason.

What version of Exchange?
To better explain:
eg.
Person A sets up several meetings (sent on-behalf of a manager perhaps).
Person A leaves and their mailbox is deleted.
Person B tries to update the meeting (or even the manager) - Exchange will state that no organiser exists.
This is because the ORIGINAL organiser (person A) is no longer able to be resolved - and cannot update "their" appointment.

Hey Post Master,
The server is running Exchange 2007, and I understand what you mean in post 35717877 and 35718011. All I'm saying is this can't be the case because the users aren't being removed from GAL and also their Mailbox is still active and working. "Person A leaves and their mailbox is deleted." is therefore not the case. But what I have noticed in the last one is the organiser's PA when setting up the meeting is putting their manager as the organiser and an attendee. Could this be causing the issue?
Thank You for all your help Postmaster and sorry for the confusion.

Do you know if they are sending ON-BEHALF or sending AS the manager?
(can you see the PA as the sender when opening the invite?)

Yes the PA is sending the email ON-BEHALF of the manager

Hey Postmaster,
I have since tested and the client does have all the required rights to the Managers account (Deligate Access and also has Publishing Editor access to the calendar). I got the PA to remove the manager as an attendee and this seems to have resolved the issue there must have been a conflict with having the manager as both Organiser and Attendee, which further testing has now confirmed this. Thank You for all your help with this issue.

Through Troubleshooting we were able to get down to the core of the issue.
Later changes to the meeting try to resolve the original organiser and cannot do so, and it will attempt to place your name in as the organiser.
Re-create the problem appointments with a current user as the originator and the issue will go away.
This is likely to be happening on appointments that were created some time ago.
