Catch all on Exchange 2007 single server deployment.

Hi all,

Conflicting stories.  I have a new domain on our email server that is collecting mail for a webapplication.  It only has one email address, I concider it to be fairly straight forward, however users don't and keep mistyping it.  To get round this I wanted to add a catch all to the server so that incorrect or correct mail would be collected and delivered.

My query is can I setup a catch all on one server?  Some say it is possible others say it isn't.

I am running a standard 2007 exchange system on a windows 2003 server, as said this exchange deployment handles all elements of the exchange, transport, hub etc..

trying to work out if I can have catchall@domain1.co.uk

Any help or confirmation will be gratefully received.

Thanks for reading

You can create a catchall mailbox on your server by following the link here:

http://www.petri.co.il/setting-up-a-catchall-mailbox-in-exchange-2007.htm

But this will only mean you receive tons of spam mail as well as the odd badly addressed message.

I would strongly advise against it.  You would be better off setting up alias email addresses on the single mailbox for the common badly spelled addresses which will limit your spam to just a few messages, not everything that is sent to your domain.

Alan,
Yes I agree, but we need this application to succeed.  Sadly for one user it is going to be a boring time reading them all.  Thankfully for its not going to be me.

Thanks.
Glad you found it.   Knew it had to be something like that.
