Is there any reason not to join an IP Office server to a domain?

We have an IP Office server that hosts our Voicemail and is the main host for configuring our IP Office system. It was set up long before my time, and for some reason it was not joined to our domain. This causes some frustrations when working with it sometimes. I was wondering if there is any good reason NOT to join it to the domain. I can always just join it an try, but I figured I'd ask around first :)

Before you create or join this host to the domain ensure you have some sort of backup of the box before hand and or see if there is/was an attempt made to join the machine to the domain in the past. This will give some direction either way if you see in the registry a domain entry from the past then I would be hesitant joining it to the domain. use a image snapshot program I.E. acronis or ghost the machine just a word of warning/caution.

Absolutely, I already had FOG ready to go to create an image of it. Where in the registry would I find said evidence?

CCB-Tech,

You can try doing a search for the domain in the registry and see if it shows up its a tedious process but this will ensure the assumptions made are correct.

That's a good idea. I had gotten distracted away from this question, but I will look into this. Once I have done that I should be able to close this question one way or another. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Though not specific to Avaya knowing whether it was once joined or not will give me some insights.
