Use Content Query to return List Items and Documents?

In SharePoint Server 2010, I have a site with a custom List Item content type and a custom Document content type.

How do I use a single Content Query Web Part to query the site collection for all items of *both* content types, regardless of the list/library which uses them?

Does this still assume the query will be done across a particular list/library type? The ideal goal is to be able to query multiple content types within a site collection, irrespective of the type of lists/libraries they are used in.
