I have checked in and merged my code into a release branch.

Now i want to remove all checked in elements from the branch.

I am not able to do a rmver command as it is diallowed.

ct rmver -xhlink -nc /abc/def@@/main/ghi/LATEST
Removing these versions of "/abc/def":
  /abc/def/2 (has: hyperlinks)
Remove versions?  [no] yes
cleartool: Warning: Trigger "xyz" has refused to let rmver proceed.
cleartool: Error: Unable to remove versions of "/abc/def".

I am advised to do a rmname.

How is rmname different from rmver command.

Will the files i remove through rmname command still be visible and not permanently deleted?

I have 2 versions of the file, i want to remove version 1 can i do this through rmname?

Couple of things. rmname will create a new version of the parent folder and remove that file from the new version. I don't think that is what you want. Who suggested a rmname.

I'm more or a UCM person and it looks like you are using Base ClearCase but I don't know of a default trigger applied by IBM / Rational that would prevent you from running an rmver. Is the trigger something developed inhouse. Do you have the correct permissions when running the rmver.

Will the files i remove through rmname command still be visible and not permanently deleted?:
yes it will still be visible as mentioned above, a new version of the folder will be created which will not have the file, but the file will be visible in the previous version of the folder.

I have 2 versions of the file, i want to remove version 1 can i do this through rmname?:
no, you cannot remove versions of the file, all versions of the file will be removed.
