Java not loading or running in WIndows XP

I have a single machine that is running Java 6_25.  The icon does not load in the system tray.  When I test it with java.com my machine details never appear.

I checked the configuration of Java thru Control Panel and it should be showing the icon in the tray.

I have checked the service of Java Quick start and it is set to Automatic and allows the system account to interact with the desktop.  Uinstalling and reinstalling via control panel has not helped.

Unfortuantely my user needs this to do her job which is primarily in Business Objects.

Thanks for the help in advance.

So you mean you need Java 1.6.0_25 not Java 1.6.0_24?
I know that Java 1.6.0_24 is working fine on many machines.
Why do you need it in system tray? Java is working fine on my computer, but it does not show icon in system tray.
Can you elaborate on what is java.com? Maybe I can check it on my machine.

java.com is the website for java.

I have no allegiance to type, just need one that works.

Try java.com and test to see if yours is working.  It should display some PC info on your system.

Thanks, my java as expected is working - says Version 6 Update 19
That's what I expected.
Then they recommed to install Update 25, but I had some issues with our corporate Web Start on update 24,
so I don't want to go to 25

And for you it tells you that you don' have java when you go there?

Sorry, I didn't understand - os itr says that your computer does not have java and you
suggests to do something about it?
and what does it suggest?

Did you try to run the actual java application which you need, after you installed java, at least as you thought, I guess?

Check your IE advanced Tab, Check Yoru IE Security tab, etc.

I thought after isntallation it stated itself and subsequently starts each time your PC does.

How do you manually start it?

for_yanCommented:
No, you don't actually start java specifically.
Yes, in IE Tools-->Options-->Advanced it should show
Java(Sun) and box should be checked and it should give the versionthere 1.6.0_19
That should come automaticlaly after installation.
You don't see it on your machine after installation?
Then I'd rather try to re-install.

Java installation is usually very easy and straightforward.
And you don't need to see it in system tray.
If it tells you that you don't have java on java.com and it does not show it in
IE Tools-Options-Advanced then go to java.com and try to install it once again.
I guess update 25 is very new, but I don't expect that it would be bad
in general, the may be some details somewhere.

I was downloading from different site (at that time it was update 24 there):
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-6u25-download-346243.html

but I'm sure on java.com it should be the same thing.

Sorry, you are right, it starts when IE starts.  It is checked on the user's system.

File is the same on Oracle site or Java site.

Use revo uninstaller to uninstall the Java and then install it again, ofcourse after a reboot.

just reinstalling via the control panel isn't enough. you also need to clear all the registry entries.
Try the uninstaller mentioned above, or another one that cleans the registry.

Here is what I did.  Ran CCleaner and Revo Uinstaller.  Got the Java icon to appear but Java is not interacting with two applications (Business Objects and Numara Footprints).  I had to take an image of a similar system using Acronis and restore.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Thanks for all the help, re-imaging was what I ultimately had to resort to.
