Hello Experts;

I would like to know how I can add vMotion feature to the service console, so they share the same IP Address? I have seen it on ESXi 4.1 but I could not do it on ESX 4.0.

 vMotion and SC
Can someone help?.

    That is one thing you can do on ESXi but not on ESX. Sorry for the bad news....

    The VMware ESXi Architecture is different to VMware ESX. ESXi does not have a service console like ESX.

    hit submit to quick, so this is unavailable on ESX 4.0.

    The reason this is, is because in ESXi, the IP address which is assigned to the ESXi host server, in the console (text mode) (ESXi doesn't have a service console or Linux element, as does ESX 4.0) is assigned to a VMKernel interface.

    in ESXi you have

    1. VMKernel Management Network
    2. VMKernel VMotion Network
    3. Virtual Machine Network

    in ESX you have a

    1. Service console
    2. VMKernel for vMotion
    3. Virtual Machine Network

    It is recommended to keep vMotion traffic seperate from other traffic. (and use a separate NIC or LAN/vLAN is possible)
